In the Introduction to Joe's McFarlands, I indicate that I have known that God has called me to write a book to preserve for future generations the information that I obtained on the McFarland Family. However, I always found some excuse for not writing the book such as making a living, changing careers, and raising four children. However, on the night of September 21, 2000, I experienced three heart attacks. I then knew that the Lord had spared my life, or postponed my death, for a purpose.

So under the inspiration of Doctor Luke, "I was compelled to write it out for you in consecutive order...." (Luke 1:3). Let me introduce you to the heritage of my father, Joe Alex McFarland, Jr. Joe was the son of John Alexander McFarland (Chapter Seven), the son of William Jackson McFarland (Chapter Six), the son of John Brown McFarland (Chapter Five), the son of John McFarland, Jr. (Chapter Four), the son of Reverend John McFarland, Sr. (Chapter Three). Now that you know the basic McFarland lineage to a time before the Revolutionary War, read on to learn about the specifics about these great men and their families.
